The Lemon Timers: From Eye to Line 3

An exhibition of contemporary paintings and sculptures

Saturday 2nd to Saturday 30th September 2017

Following on from their two previous shows, the Lemon Timers, a group of Wiltshire-based artists, are exhibiting at Salisbury’s Fisherton Mill for third successive year. The group has now grown to 12 and each member will be showing several examples of their work, with exhibits ranging from watercolours, prints and charcoal sketches to bronzes and oils.

The Lemon Timers are a mixed group linked by weekly workshops which start with warm-up exercises in the form of a series of minute-long life poses timed by their eponymous lemon-shaped kitchen timer. ‘The life drawing sessions hold us together’ says the group’s spokeswomen Patricia Webb, adding, ‘but it’s our artistic diversity that makes us so interesting.’

The group’s emphasis on life drawing is reflected by Debra Sweeney’s striking nudes and sculptor Martin Wright’s acrobatic dancing bronze figures. Other group members prefer landscapes and their work includes Anne Tompson’s woodland scene with its sunny bursts of colour and dark, shadowy trees and Margaret Gill’s atmospheric seascape of inky black rocks against a turquoise sea. In all there will be approximately 40 framed pictures on the show, plus a selection of mounted work displayed in browsers, and this year’s exhibition also includes a sketch of the group’s iconic lemon-timer – it’s masquerading as a piece of fruit in the foreground of Annie Miller’s lively sketch of an earthenware pot and a glass.
