SALISBURY ART TRAIL RETURNS TO FISHERTON MILL

After a three-year break, the 2018 Salisbury Art Trail returns from the 2nd to the 17th June, beginning with a launch evening at the Salisbury Art Centre showcasing artworks from each Art Trail venue. Over 75 artists across 50 venues in the city centre and surrounding area are taking part and it's completely free to visit all venues (please check opening hours).

Major venues taking part include Salisbury Library, Salisbury Cathedral refectory and us here at Fisherton Mill, as well as local hotels, shops and artists' studios. As the biggest private venue taking part, we (venue 38) are proud to be supporting the Salisbury Art Trail once more.

Some of our Studios will be offering demonstrations and workshops during the Trail and six selected local artists have been invited to exhibit here: Amanda Fisher (Charcoal, Graphite and Ink Drawings), Annie Taylor (Oil Paintings), Gemma Dunn (Printmaking and Painting), Peter Matthews (Mixed Media and Acrylic Paintings, Collage and Print), Sarah Sowerby and Yvette Cannon (both Gold and Silversmiths).

TOILET RENOVATIONS

If you have been to visit us in the last couple of weeks, you will know that we are in the process of having our toilets renovated. At the moment, it is the men's toilet that is being totally reconstructed. The work is now very near to completion.

The ladies toilets are also in line for a complete update. The work is scheduled for just after Easter.

We are so grateful to you all for your patience whilst all this is happening.

SAYING NO TO PLASTIC STRAWS

At Fisherton Mill, we are saying no to plastic straws and will only be using paper ones from now on, if requested.

The global movement to eliminate plastic drinking straws from our landfills, our streams, our oceans, and our beaches is picking up momentum now. People are refusing plastic straws and requesting that restaurants & cafés provide biodegradable alternatives, where needed.

Here are some steps you can take to help with this movement:

Level 1:  Make a personal commitment to say "no" to plastic straws. When you order a drink, please say  “no plastic straw, please.” Encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Level 2: Ask your favourite restaurants, cafés, bars, clubs and pubs to join in with this movement.

Level 3:  If they need or wish to continue providing straws for customers, please ask them to change to an environmentally friendly version -  eg. paper.

** LOVER VILLAGE VALENTINE'S DAY POSTAL SERVICE VIA FISHERTON MILL **

This year we are joining forces and working exclusively with the Lover Village Valentine Postal Service to help people send their cards from 'the most romantic village in the world.'

This is the second year that the Lover village Post Office has been running this special service and we are truly delighted to be involved.

To take part is simple:
1. Choose a card in our Gallery shop, write your message and address the envelope.
2. Hand it to one of our Gallery staff members.
3. Costs vary depending on the card you choose (from £3 to £8) but all options include the special processing in Lover.
4. Post the card in the Fisherton Mill post box on the counter by Saturday 10th February 2018.

The Lover cupids will collect the cards and process them from the village, stamping each one with a special cachet stamp on the envelope to mark its origin before they are sent from the village to your loved one in time for 14th February.

Part of the proceeds from each purchase will go to the Lover Community Trust.

Read more on the Lover village website.

** TO CLAY PRACTITIONERS IN THE SALISBURY AREA **

Hey Clay! is returning next year from the 23rd to the 25th March 2018 and we are very much hoping to be involved with this again.

Organised by the Crafts Council, it is a national celebration of clay which gives everyone the chance to unleash their inner potter at venues across the UK through free workshops and taster sessions.

The only stipulation by the organisers is that the participation sessions are free. Whilst this is a big ask for clay practitioners and the venues hosting them, the hope is that taking part will bring in new audiences and that being part of a national campaign will help practitioners and venues raise their profiles.

Hey Clay! will once more be part of Get Creative (which is being extended to ten days, taking place from 17-26 March) meaning that the BBC will be promoting it on national and regional radio and online. Several Hey Clay! 2017 venues were featured on regional radio stations and one of our Hey Clay! makers threw a pot on air in the Radio 5 Live studio!

We will need to return our event listings forms to Hey Clay! 2018 by 15th January 2018, but earlier if possible, so if you are a clay practitioner interested in helping us be a part of Hey Clay! 2018 again, then please do get in touch as soon as possible.

Observer Food Monthly 'Best Cheap Eats in the West 2017'

We are delighted to announce that the Gallery Café is a winner in the highly prized Observer Food Monthly (OFM) Awards for 2017.  Named as one of three winners of 'Best Cheap Eats in the West', the OFM praised Fisherton Mill Gallery Café as follows: "An 1880 grain mill with a gallery and a café which spills out into the courtyard on fine days. Imaginative, well-priced menus."

We're genuinely humbled to get this award again and we would like to express our gratitude to all of our customers - regulars, occasional visitors and one-off visitors - who all help to make the Gallery Café such a success. We look forward to welcoming you in the months coming up to Christmas and into 2018!

Julia's House Children's Hospice - Our Chosen Charity

Our Christmas Shopping Evening is nearly here!

Friday 10th November 2017 - 6pm to 8.30pm

You are warmly invited to come along and join us on Friday 10th November for our annual Christmas Shopping Evening. We will be open from 6pm to 8.30pm so please pop in on your way home from work or on your way out to dinner, and bring all your family and friends!  We aim to take the stress out of Christmas shopping for you and help you find unusual handmade presents not available on the High Street.

Whilst you shop you will also be able to enjoy mulled wine and nibbles, listen to live music, get 10% discount on your purchases and be one of the first people to visit  "Shine" - our Christmas exhibition which will be previewing on that evening!

First Floor and Courtyard Studios will be staying open for the Shopping Evening for browsing, buying, ordering (and making, if booked in advance). Many will also be offering 10% discounts, so come and get your Christmas gifts all sorted out in one place and then you can relax!

If you haven't visited for a while, you will find that we have two new studios on our First Floor - Alison Nash (an expert in bead embroidery, felting and mosaics) and Fisherton Framing (for all your artwork framing needs). They will be very happy to welcome you.
