Born to Knit Workshops
‘Born to Knit’ runs day-time and evening knitting and crochet workshops offering tuition in everything from casting-on and cable patterns to colour work.
Whether you're a complete beginner or wanting to learn new techniques, Born to Knit can help!
Learn to crochet
Tuesday 12th February - 7 - 9.30pm
If you have always wanted to have a go at Crochet but don't know where to start, then this introductory evening will dispel the mystery. This workshop will teach the basic techniques of crochet from the beginning.
Friday 22nd February - 10.30 - 4.00pm
Entrelac knitting creates an interesting woven texture which looks as though strips of knitting have been entwined, but is actually knitted in one piece. Learn the technique on a small sample piece, and then embark on a cushion cover in an aran-weight yarn to suit your decor.
Knit a Bobble Hat
Thursday 28th February - 7 - 9.30pm
Learn to knit in the round to make a woolly hat for the winter. Choose from a range of wool weights and colours to match your outfit, or as a gift for someone special, and complete with a faux fur pompom. A quick and easy knit, with no sewing up!
This workshop is suitable for novice knitters who are happy with casting in and off, and knit and purl stitches.
Wave on Wave Shawl with Fiona Morris
Saturday 2nd March - 10.30am - 4pm
Fiona Morris is a knitting and crochet tutor with many years’ experience. Following her highly successful Estonian Lace workshop here last year, she is returning to tutor this one-day workshop, to make one of her latest designs - this eye-catching ‘wave on wave’ triangular shawl.
Thursday 14th March - 7 - 9.30pm
This Workshop will help ensure that your finished knitting project looks its very best and reflects the time and enthusiasm you put into making it.
Introduction to Tunisian Crochet
Saturday 23rd March - 2 - 4.30pm
Tunisian Crochet is an intriguing combination of knitting and crochet, which is a fun alternative to both, and easy to pick up. Join this afternoon workshop to learn the basic technique and begin a straightforward project - either a cosy cowl or a cushion cover in one of two stitch patterns.
An Introduction to Fair Isle Knitting
Saturday 30th March - 2 - 4.30pm
The session will take you through the basic principles and techniques involved, and putting them into practice on a sample swatch.
One -to-One Tuition
If you are unable to come to a workshop on a particular date, Heather does offer one-to-one tuition which she can tailor to whatever you are interested in learning.
Knit and Knatter Group
The B2K K&K is an opportunity for knitters of all ages and levels of experience to get together informally over a cup of tea/coffee for a Knit and a Knatter. These are purely social gatherings so no tuition is provided. For those wanting to learn to knit, or a little refresher on certain techniques, please have a look at our workshops page. Or why not book some friendly one-to-one tuition with Heather for as little as £7.50 per 15 mins at the Born to Knit studio at Fisherton Mill.
Heather runs two ‘Knit & Knatter’ groups, both in Salisbury. For information about dates, times and arrangements, please see the Born to Knit website.
