APRIL 2019

Domino Knitting
Thursday 25th April - 7pm - 9.30pm

An introduction to a different technique where small pieces are knitted together as the work progresses – a bit like building up a patchwork quilt only with knitting. This workshop is suitable for novice knitters who can already cast on and off, knit and purl.

May 2019

Introduction to Tunisian Crochet
Saturday 4th May - 2 - 4.30pm

Tunisian Crochet is an intriguing combination of knitting and crochet, which is a fun alternative to both, and easy to pick up. Join this afternoon workshop to learn the basic technique and begin a straightforward project - either a cosy cowl or a cushion cover in one of two stitch patterns.

Double Knitting workshop
Friday 10th May - 10.30am - 4.30pm

This full day workshop will introduce the amazing technique of Double Knitting, which allows you to create a double layer of fabric with mirror-image colourwork whilst knitting both layers simultaneously!

Crochet a Storage Basket
Saturday 18th May 2019 - 2pm - 4.30pm

Work through a crochet pattern with guidance to make an adorable storage basket. Learn to crochet 'in the round', starting with an adjustable ring and working out from the centre. The basket uses just one basic crochet stitch and is made all in one piece, it can be easily adapted to any size. Pattern and yarn are included in the cost of the workshop.

Continental Knitting
Thursday 23rd May 2019 - 7pm - 9.30pm

Learn how to knit ‘continentally’, which many people find faster than the English method and which is also a real advantage when working with more than one colour, as it saves having to keep stopping to untangle them! Suitable for knitters who are confident with casting on, casting off, and knit & purl stitches.
If you already have a pair of 4mm needles please bring them with you; otherwise needles can be purchased on the day. Yarn will be provided and is included in the price of the workshop.

June 2019

Introduction to Lace Knitting
Saturday 1st June 2019 - 2 - 4.30pm

Have you aspired to having a go at lace knitting, but been daunted by the thought of working with fine yarn and interpreting a chart? If so, this workshop is for you! The techniques are taught using a sample piece worked in double knit yarn, and then you can choose the thickness of yarn you would like to make a lace effect scarf or cowl. This workshop is suitable for knitters who are confident with the basics of casting on and off, and working knit and purl stitches who would like a new challenge and to take their knitting to the next level.

Learn to Crochet
Tuesday 13th June 2019 - 7pm - 9.30pm

If you have always wanted to have a go at Crochet but don’t know where to start, then this introductory evening will dispel the mystery and teach you the basic techniques. A crocheted tablet or cushion cover is an ideal first project for beginners.

Introduction to Corner Crochet
Tuesday 18th June 2019 - 7pm - 9.30pm

This crochet technique requires only one stitch technique, and produces an attractive scalloped pattern which grows quickly and is ideal for a cushion cover or blanket. The yarn used is a gorgeous combination of British wool and nettle fibres - which is a joy to work with and a lot softer than it sounds! Suitable for beginners, although some previous knowledge of crochet would help.

Introduction to Fair Isle Knitting
Saturday 29th June 2019 - 2pm - 4.30pm

If you’ve always wanted to have a go at Fair Isle knitting, but have been put off because it looks too complicated, then this workshop is for you! The session will take you through the basic principles and techniques involved, and putting them into practice on a sample swatch. Those wanting a further challenge can try knitting with both hands - not at all essential, but it does make knitting larger Fair Isle projects a little faster!

Suitable for any knitter with a basic knowledge of casting on, casting off and knit & purl stitches, who is looking to expand their skill set.

One -to-One Tuition

If you are unable to come to a workshop on a particular date, Heather does offer one-to-one tuition which she can tailor to whatever you are interested in learning.

Knit and Knatter Group

The B2K K&K is an opportunity for knitters of all ages and levels of experience to get together informally over a cup of tea/coffee for a Knit and a Knatter. These are purely social gatherings so no tuition is provided. For those wanting to learn to knit, or a little refresher on certain techniques, please have a look at our workshops page. Or why not book some friendly one-to-one tuition with Heather for as little as £7.50 per 15 mins at the Born to Knit studio at Fisherton Mill.

Heather runs two ‘Knit & Knatter’ groups, both in Salisbury. For information about dates, times and arrangements, please see the Born to Knit website.
