An exhibition of paintings by Fiona Forbes
11th May - 8th June 2019
Paintings full of the joys of spring.
With their cheerful subject matters, zinging colours and bright and breezy style, Fiona Forbes’s pictures bring a touch of spring sunshine to Fisherton Mill this May. ‘Spring is associated with new growth which induces a sense of well-being and renewed energy and I hope my love of bright colours will help with this uplifting process’ she says.
Fiona will be showing nearly 90 paintings in what is her first solo show in Wiltshire. She lived abroad for many years before moving to back to the UK ten years ago and the pictures include scenes from France, as well as some inspired by Salisbury such as a view of the Cathedral from the water meadows and the market square on a busy Saturday. She says, ‘Salisbury is a lovely city with fantastic buildings and is now in a state of revival after the sad and tragic incidents last year.’
Although Fiona started her artistic career using watercolours she now works mostly in oils, applying the paint with a knife rather than a brush. This is a very immediate way of working and forces her to simplify details and concentrate on colour and texture, resulting in a vibrant, impressionistic style full of energy and expression.
Admission free. Opening hours: Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm; Saturday, 9.30am-5.30pm
