Downpours & Luminosity

A solo exhibition by Emily Toomer

5 April - 10 May 2025

Downpours and luminosity explores the process of tears and healing in a beautiful way.

Tears can release so much pain that it can feel like a physical downpour of relentless emotion whether love, grief or empathy. Whilst you stand still in the persistent rain, eventually you should sense a beautiful light and a chemical release of beautiful endorphins despite the complexities and challenges that face you. You can now see hope – because you have to.

My paintings (oil on canvas) use a vibrant energetic blend of abstract, impressionist and pointillist techniques intensified with dripping gold in 23 carat gold leaf to symbolise the downpour and light. Subjects vary from abstract rain, mountains, woodland and nudes, each capturing the concept of downpours and luminosity.

My artistic intention is for my paintings to not only aesthetically please the eye but to resonate with the viewer and be emotionally connected and uplifted with their sense of hope and luminosity against their own personal complex challenges.
