Within is an exploration of Louise's responses to our natural world, the everchanging landscape, skies full of promise or threat - sometimes menacing but always exciting. Walking with her sketchbook in her backpack, she spends hours immersed in the sublime majesty of the British countryside. Being alone in nature is profoundly important to her; feeling minuscule in the vastness of our natural world, views stretching into veils of mist as they disappear miles away in the distance.

Louise's process always begins in the landscape, working quickly, intuitively to record her emotional response to place and feeling; mark-making is fluid, spontaneous often using found objects, twigs, bracken and grass, releasing her from visually representing the landscape; making many sketches as she absorbs the atmosphere, the elemental rawness of the natural world.

In the studio, Louise's process slows using water-based media or oil paint - techniques become considered, mediative and reflective. She starts by creating sweeping marks across the surface with a large brush, this process permits her to remain free and expressive from the beginning. Referring initially to her sketchbooks, quickly finding the process taking on its own life leading the artist in a direction of discovery founded in memory and experience. Pushing the boundaries of landscape toward abstraction pull at her coat sleeves; she abstracts from the landscape to give a visual language from the heart to the paint brush.
