Wild World
An exhibition by Louise Luton
Saturday 4 October - Saturday 15 November 2025
This autumn, Salisbury artist Louise Luton returns to Fisherton Mill with a new collection of paintings celebrating both the beauty on our doorstep and the adventures that take her further afield. 'Wild World' is Louise’s third solo exhibition at Fisherton Mill, following two previously successful safari-themed shows. Regular visitors to the Mill will recognise Louise's distinctive vibrant style.
This time, alongside Louise's much loved elephants, lions and tigers, visitors will be treated to British favourites such as Highland cows, stags and hares, as well as floral landscapes inspired by the Wiltshire countryside, Cranborne Chase and the Dorset coastline. Whether you are a long-time collector or simply curious to see something new, this lively celebration of colour and creativity promises a warm welcome and plenty to enjoy.
Louise balances broad, expressive brushstrokes with fine detail, so each piece feels alive and full of energy. Her animals have character, her landscapes are rooted in places her audience will recognise, and even her portraits and cityscapes carry the same sense of warmth and vibrancy.Much of the work begins in her sketchbooks. Wherever she goes, Louise carries watercolours to capture quick impressions — bright, spontaneous studies that later grow into the larger oil paintings on linen and canvas seen in this exhibition. This combination of immediacy and depth gives her work a distinctive style: neither abstract nor photographic, but a joyful mixture of realism and expression. Louise invites viewers to see the world through her eyes:
"Wild World is about connection: to animals we love, to landscapes we know, to travels we dream of. From the shimmer of a dragonfly’s wings, to a hare standing watch in the fields, to the vastness of an African elephant in pastel tones"
Meet the Artist - Louise will be in the Gallery chatting about her inspirations and demonstrating her painting process on: Thursday 16th, Friday 24th, Friday 31st October and Friday 7th and 14th November from 11am - 3pm.
